I spotted this wee Hawk on a recent Sunday drive through Cowichan Bay. Using my bird book, I believe this is a Cooper's Hawk.
These hawks actually feed mainly on birds? Apparently chasing them relentlessly through the woods.
From a distance, I can see another Bald Eagle.
Look how huge it is in the tree!
Having a wee conversation with the little bird that just landed on the branch next to big Momma.
Oh Oh.....where did the little bird go? Yikes.
Interesting that there are still swans here on the island? This is the Mute Swan.
A Hooded Merganser and it's mate hanging out in the Bay.
These birds winter on the coast of British Columbia. The male is very colourful, but the female I always recognize first because of her warm brown head and spiky crown like crest.
One of the fastest flying birds of the duck family.
This Mute Swan is a resident here in the Cowichan Bay. They are almost always silent unless it is defended it's young or eggs. Then they hiss and make barking noise?
Everybody gets along. Here are two Harbour Seals with two American Wigeons.
Not sure if this seagull was landing or grabbing a fish? He flew straight up after this.
Can't get enough of these cuties.
