Another eventful visit to Cherry Point Lookout was to find this majestic Great Blue Heron fishing in the water with the ducks.
There is no way to show how funny it was to watch these ducks riding the waves.
Apparently very common in this area...as well as at home...but still impressive to me.
"Here comes another one...hang on!"
Two Bald Eagles just down the road from Cowichan Bay....but still beside the water. They are mainly fish eaters. We were told an interesting fact about Bald Eagles. That there talons grab a fish and do not release until they land. Unfortunately, if the fish is heavier that the eagle can carry....which apparently can happen....the eagle will fall into the water and drown still holding the fish? A bit of a sad story?
Bad Bald Eagle hair day.
"I'm not speaking to you..." "Well I'm not going to look at you." "So there." "So there."
Looking out on this rainy, darkish afternoon into this vast ocean water.
But then I start seeing what I think is a dog way out in the water.
Hey...those aren't puppies.....they are Harbour Seals playing in the water.
So difficult to see as they move quickly and are the same colour as the water....but they are there nonetheless. I was completely enthralled with watching them.
Just his wee nose above the water. So dang cute.
Or a group of three little noses.
Often...and I am not sure why....if there are birds congregating in the water, they are sometimes giving away the position of seals or whales?
Now that is more like it. I can see his whole head.
These little guys are found throughout the world, but these particular mammals are the Eastern Pacific Harbour Seals.
I swore they could see me on the shore trying to take their photo?
That was fun....but we had the opportunity to get much more up close with these adorable creatures later.
