We have been here for less than a week...but what a week it has been. Balancing resting (after a long road trip from Ontario) with exploring it has been amazing. Our actual address is Cobble Hill, British Columbia. Located about 45 km north of Victoria. With a population of about 2000.
All the photos I have posted have been from a distance of less than 10 km from our winter home! At this rate, we will not get to the other side of the island until the new year.
Cobble Hill and the Cowichan Valley (the municipality we are in) are becoming famous for the vineyards that can be seen everywhere. This vineyard is the Cherry Point Farms only 3 minutes down our road. Closed now for the winter, I realize that this entire area is called the Vancouver Island Wine Route. For those who love wine....sounds like a great summer destination?
The flowers and apple trees are right in the front yard. So much is available to us so close.
Our neighbour suggested to us to just get in the car, pick a road, and explore on a wee adventure. If you have a GPS you can always find your way home.
We have been nesting in our wee place but also nesting by getting into a routine. Wednesday we joined the Snap Fitness gym in Duncan. For Deb, to help with her range of motion and a gentle non-weight movement to empower her against this affliction she continues to endure.
For me, some weight to strength and build on my running abilities. If I am stronger, I will definitely save myself from the aches and pains that running can trigger.
For both of us an outing to get us in the world of people.
To immerse in the community, we had to find our favourite place which is a great cafe. Just 5 minutes down the road, this Junction Cafe makes a mean cappuccino!
A little random information is that the "Little Women" movie (1994) was filmed here in Cobble Hill.
Almost 3500 km away from home and yet the paparazzi still finds us???
Flowers still blooming and we are into the first week of November.
Right next door to the Junction Cafe.......you guessed it......a Yarn Store called 'The Loom.'
She has everything an obsessive knitter like I needs!
Local yarn....one of these twisted balls would make a sweater....Impressive.....but a wee bit costly at $120. That will surely make a dent in my allowance?
Green is the colour of the area with a dotting of flowering plants. Almost like a rainforest.
Oriental grass that would look awesome at the trailer. It is about 7' tall.
Hanging in with the last few petals.....Still a beautiful flower.
A beautiful, nervous little Ovenbird. Part of the Wood Warblers it is about 6" tall. The unusual name is derived from the description of it ground nest that looks like a miniature Dutch oven.
When we arrived....there were some of the locally grown apples in a fruit bowl in our apartment. How thoughtful and delicious.
Bursts of incredible colours of the local vineyards.
Little Debbie...hanging in there.
My new camera. It was painful to see all the wildlife and not be able to get photos that I felt confident to share. My previous camera, which was a great Nikon model had a 18 zoom. This new baby has a 50 zoom!! Little birds....be afraid now. I am out of control. Lol.
Seriously...do I look like a tourist?? Don't answer that......
